Vrsine
Vrsine is the neighboring village of Poljica – a small Dalmatian farming village in the hills just inland, known for its organic small-scale farms. Olive oil, wine, cheese, and dried figs here all come directly from the land. Several families still live as subsistence farmers on small plots.
The walk to Vrsine
The 30-minute walk from Poljica to Vrsine takes you past old stone houses, donkey pastures, and olive groves – a small step back in time, away from the sea, into rural Dalmatia where life moves a little slower. If you’d rather drive, it’s only a few minutes.
What to expect
- A stroll through the village between olive trees and vineyards
- Direct purchase of olive oil, wine, cheese, figs, and vegetables from local farmers
- Hiking in the hills above the village with views across the offshore islands
- Olive harvest in November and December – olives here are still picked by hand
We ran our own organic farm in Vrsine until a few years ago. Although it’s no longer active in that form, we know the village and its farmers well – ask us if you’d like a contact or a tip for a visit.
