Day trips and excursions
Poljica is centrally located in Central Dalmatia – most of the region’s key sights are easy day trips from here. Below, the neighboring towns and destinations we most often recommend to guests.
Around Poljica
- Marina – the neighboring town 3 km (2 mi) away, harbor, restaurants, evening life
- Vrsine – the small farming village in the hills, known for its organic farms
- Primošten – the photogenic peninsula about 30 minutes down the coast, famous for its wines
The big names in the region
- Trogir – the UNESCO city, 10 minutes by car
- Split – Dalmatia’s biggest city, Diocletian’s Palace, about 30 minutes
- Solin – ancient Roman Salona, ruins and archaeological museum, 20 minutes
- Krka National Park – waterfalls and trails, 50 minutes. Also known from old European Westerns shot here in the 1960s
Ferry-accessible islands
From Split (30 min away) and Trogir (10 min), regular ferries go to the Dalmatian islands:
- Brač – the island with Bol and the famous Zlatni Rat (“Golden Horn”) beach
- Hvar – lavender, summer nightlife, UNESCO-listed Stari Grad Plain
- Šolta – quieter, more local, right off Split
- Vis – the farthest out, a military island under Yugoslavia, now increasingly a foodie destination
Nature and hikes
The direct surroundings are worth a walk: olive groves, vineyards, small chapels, island views. Serious hikers find more demanding terrain in the neighboring ranges (Biokovo, Mosor, Velebit) – details on Hiking tours.
We’re happy to advise on which destinations fit a half day vs. a full day, how to get there, and which routes take you off the main tourist circuit.
