Getting to Poljica
Poljica sits in Central Dalmatia, on the Croatian Adriatic coast between Trogir and Šibenik. For guests flying in from North America, the UK, or Australia, the fastest route is nearly always a flight to Split Airport (SPU) – 20 minutes from our house by car. No visa is required for US, UK, Australian, or Canadian citizens for stays under 90 days (Schengen rules).
Happy to pick you up at Split Airport – just mention it when booking.
By air (the usual way)
Split Airport (SPU) is only 20 minutes from Poljica and has direct flights from many European hubs in season (May–October):
- From the UK: London (Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton), Manchester, Bristol, Edinburgh – direct via British Airways, easyJet, Jet2, Ryanair, TUI. Flight time around 2h30.
- From the US/Canada: No direct flights to Split. One-stop routings via Frankfurt, Munich, London, Amsterdam, Paris, or Istanbul are typical. Most US travelers we’ve hosted fly into Frankfurt or Zurich and connect onward – total travel time around 11–14 hours from the East Coast.
- From Australia: Usually two connections – via a Gulf hub (Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi) and a European gateway (Frankfurt, Rome, Zurich) into Split or Zagreb. Book ahead for shoulder-season fares.
Alternative airports:
- Zagreb (ZAG): Croatia’s main hub, about 4 hours north by road or rail from Poljica. More intercontinental connections.
- Dubrovnik (DBV): 3.5–4 hours south. Useful if you plan to combine northern and southern Dalmatia.
From Split Airport to Poljica: rent a car, take a taxi (around €40–50), or book a transfer with us directly.
By car
Many of our European guests drive. The typical route passes through Austria and Slovenia:
- Frankfurt – Poljica: ~1,200 km / ~745 miles, 12–14 hours
- London – Poljica: ~1,900 km / ~1,180 miles via ferry or Eurotunnel, roughly 20 hours spread over two days
Bring: road-toll vignettes for Austria and Slovenia (around €10–15 each), and a credit card or Euro cash for the distance-based tolls in Croatia (Zagreb–Split costs roughly €25).
US or UK guests flying in and planning to drive locally can rent a car at Split Airport (Sixt, Hertz, Europcar, Avis, plus local providers). Your home license works for short stays; an International Driving Permit is not strictly required for US/UK/AU travelers, but can be useful if you’re stopped.
By train or bus
- Night train Munich → Zagreb runs daily (≈9 hours, sleeper available). From Zagreb continue by train or intercity bus to Split (4 hours).
- FlixBus and similar run direct services from many European cities to Split; from Split, regional buses stop in Poljica.
Not the fastest options, but scenic.
By ferry from Italy
A favourite among European road-trippers. Overnight car ferries run year-round between Ancona (Italy) and Split (about 10 hours, cabins available). Seasonal routes also run from Venice, Pescara, and Bari. Operators: Jadrolinija, SNAV.
The final stretch
The coastal road D8 runs right past Poljica between Trogir and Marina. You can’t really miss the village.
