Hiking tours in Central Dalmatia
Central Dalmatia is great walking country. A few miles inland from Poljica, the landscape opens into olive groves, vineyards, and dry karst hills – Adriatic always in sight, the Dinaric Alps rising behind.
Close to home
- Coastal walks between Poljica, Marina, and Vinišće – flat, well-marked
- Path up to Vrsine through olive groves and past old stone houses (30 min, uphill)
- Hills above Poljica with views of the islands Drvenik and Šolta
- Rocky coves along the coast – great for swim-and-walk outings
Day trips into the wider region
These spots are 30 to 90 minutes by car – local trail maps available, main routes well marked:
- Krka National Park – waterfalls and loop trails around the cascades (≈50 min)
- Biokovo Nature Park – the striking coastal range near Makarska, demanding summit walks; the Skywalk glass platform at 1,228 m / 4,028 ft is spectacular (and, honestly, nerve-testing)
- Mosor massif above Split – worth it for the 1,339 m / 4,393 ft Veliki Kabal summit
- Paklenica National Park – canyons and climbing terrain in the Velebit range
- Primošten and Rogoznica – coastal and hinterland loops
What we don’t do anymore
We used to plan, transport, and guide hikes ourselves. We no longer offer that. What we still do happily: recommend routes, name good maps, put you in touch with local hiking guides, and explain what’s worth walking in which season.
Best hiking season
October through May – mild temperatures, crystal air, few other walkers. High summer is only comfortable on coastal or water-adjacent paths; mountain walks mean very early starts.
